DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, "Official Standard" marked mvt, Grade 936, 17J, 18S, gold-filled OF original case with beautiful engine turning and engraving detail, Ferguson white enamel DS impressed dial, red Ferguson hour hand, SW-LS, nickel damascene, s#236302. The original Ferguson dial of this watch is rare in 18 size Hamilton version and is in the typical Swiss made style. This example also has the notable feature of a seldom seen original red Ferguson hour hand still present. The "Official Standard" movement marking is scarce to rare and Grade 936 movements with this marking were made for the Smith Patterson Company of Boston, Massachusetts. This particular serial number is listed in the Hamilton factory ledger as having been sold to Smith Patterson on November 26th, 1904. From the well-known Hamilton collection of Robert Bennett of Olivehurst, California.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running after some prodding to start and initial sluggishness after start, overhaul recommended, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some fine to micro-fine scratches, some bits of oxide to regulator assembly; virtually flawless dial with few small fine to micro-fine scratches; nearly mint hands; case shows very little wear, no dents or dings, excellent engine turning and engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows very little wear; clean plastic crystal.
